Using Soft Eyes before EFT Tapping

Soft Eyes is a process that I discovered some years ago from Aikido and if you would like to know more about Aikido a martial art that can improve many areas of your life, just Google the subject.

EFT Master Tania Prince now uses this process with her Inner Repatterning method closely related to EFT. Before we get into any form of tapping you will discover how this process enhances your EFT your own EFT practice. The process is called soft eyes, sometimes know as peripheral vision. It is an alternative to hard, narrowed seeing with softer focusing that can also have the benefit of helping you to obtain an easier, less judgmental viewpoint.

Daily soft eye practice gives you the ability to not over focus on things and to stay calm and aware of all of one's surroundings and in a book entitled, THE ZEN DRIVING BOOK, the author mentions something called no-seeing and mentions that Samurai warriors who used it learned to cultivate a complete 360 degree field of awareness.

Using soft eyes entails not just adopting an alternative visual mode, but also entering an altered state of being. Once you've mastered the art of soft eyes, this state can be achieved in a split second. Attention is what we use to filter out unwanted sensory input and if your attention is too tight and concentrated (by focusing too hard on one object in front of you), then you'll end up being oblivious to your peripheral vision. If a stimulus is introduced to an unprepared person, his eyes narrow and the flight or fight response takes over.

If the same unexpected stimulus comes to someone with "soft eyes" the natural reflex is transcended and a more authentic response takes its place - such as thinking a new thought. Sometimes, hard eyes can be useful, as when we are putting a complex model together or trying to get a splinter out of our child's finger.

Soft eyes happen when we relax the muscles around our eyes and let ourselves see with our peripheral vision as well as with our central, focused vision. So over time and with practice you can develop softer eyes when confronted with something new and I believe it will allow all of us to have more authentic responses and "think" more "new" thoughts." Also with soft eyes, peripheral vision is enhanced, the depth of field appears to be greater, and colors seem remarkably vivid."

Soon in the EFT Hub Resource we will be bringing you a new video featuring EFT Master Tania Prince walking you through the process of peripheral vision or Soft Eyes.  Watch this space ;-)

I like this concept! It's also used by some yoga teachers. A very useful practice for calming and centering.

Thanks for this information/reminder. Soft eyes are also used in vision improvement - and in NLP; I had forgotten about. It is a wonderful exercise, I'm glad to have it back :-) caecy

interesting....my dad taught me to do that when I was very young and he knew nothing about martial arts...he used to say it makes you aware of all that's going on around you, not only what's in front of you... I used to think he was bonkers, but having tried it myself I found it most useful over the years... so thank you for the reminder...

I just tried this, and find it very interesting. I'm looking forward to hearing more about it, especially while using EFT.

Thank you for sharing this. I have used this for a long time to encourage my singing students to understand the difference between being present and aware rather than overthinking.( I learned it from Meribeth Dayme an inspirational teacher)If the eyes have that softer focus then our bodies relax, the diaphragm releases , we breathe better and we are far more alive and expanded.
Another way to do it is to bring your awareness into the field of the body, ie follow your breath going in and out of the body or feel your feet on the ground , sitting bones in the chair etc., staying with part of your awareness in the field of your body. Eckhart Tolle teaches this beautifully!
